P.P.S. Have you ever really wanted something so badly you could almost taste it, and then missed out because you simply waited too long? Remember just how disappointed and frustrated you were, thinking the whole time, “I can’t believe I missed that!”

When I was nine, my dad’s company got hold of some Boston Red Sox tickets they were going to give away to their employees. Boy, did I love them, watching them on TV as often as I could. That day, my dad said “Son, you and I are going to a Red Sox game.” I had never seen a “real” professional baseball game before and was so excited I couldn’t sleep a wink that night.

Anyway, he worked for a small company in Maine with about 40 employees.  And they only had 20 tickets to give away, first come - first serve. My dad figured since many of the other workers were women, and didn’t really like baseball anyway, he would wait ’till the next day and get the tickets at the bus, assuming there would be plenty left for us.

The next morning, we ate a good breakfast, packed the cooler, and got our Red Sox hat and shirts on, anticipating a great day. After all, it was my first trip to Boston to see a real ballgame. It was very quiet as we drove back home in utter disbelief.

Use Free Publicity To Increase Sales
Advertising in any medium costs a pretty penny and can quickly bleed you dry, but you can get great publicity for free. You can start by writing articles to establish yourself as an expert in your business. Then get them published where the greatest number of potential clients will read them.

Years ago, before there were good directories of articles online, I collected over 600 online editors’ email addresses and sent my articles to them on a regular basis. While this was a good idea, the next one I’m going to tell you about is even more powerful.

Is AT&T trying to kill email and VOIP? - Small Business Marketing Tips

This past week AT&T started blocking my email, email to my AT&T email service from my own web sites, and then I discovered AT&T along with a number of other phone companies has also started blocking access to free VOP conference call services.

I’m not sure what AT&T is up to but it would appear they are trying to make it harder for you to market your business wihout resorting to using their phone services.

Just when small business owners are starting to discover the effectiveness of using email to market their businesses it appears the phone companies are getting greedy and want to squeeze the internet for more profits.

Don’t Make This Web Site Linking Mistake…It’s one of the most common web site marketing blunders

I’m not interested in linking to just any small business site or blog and it’s nothing personal, it’d be bad for my web site marketing for me and in this case for Brian.

Just any link from another site won’t help your search engine positioning or help your web site marketing. You need links from other relevant sites. Get a bunch of links from unrelated sites and the search engines won’t know how to rank your site. You’ll just end up confusing them and reducing your chance for a top listing.

In my case that’d be other sites about small business marketing and sales or about web site marketing. In
brian’s case it’d be sites about real estate and not just any real estate site.

Not only do you want links from other sites that have related content, you want sites from popular sites, sites that get lots of traffic. The more popular the site the link originates from, the more it’s a positive and helps your search engine positioning.

Don’t Do It! Small Business Marketing Scams

The small business marketing question I got today shocked me! The woman on he line confessed she’d made every wrong mistake in the book and now with a maxed out credit card was trying to figure out what to do next. While her goals were high, she wanted to become a millionaire, she had no idea where to start.

She’d just gotten off the phone with a representative of a firm that promises to help anyone become an instant success in real estate. When she told the representative her financial situation he told her to talk to her credit card company and see how much cash she could come up with towards the $10,000 cost of the sure fire get rich program.

Her question was should she take on additional debt to sign up and “Find fast wealth in any city, town, or neighborhood” ?

My immediate response was NO! And then I did what she should have done first. I went to:

It’s not a pretty or fast site but when I searched the name of the program in question, I found countless stories of people paying their $10,000 for real estate coaching and getting next to nothing in return.

Want to make a million with your small business? You can, with a good idea, a high level of expertise, hard work and effective markeing. If you’re looking for an oppportunity and it sounds too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true. Before you invest in it, do your own due dilegence and look through the industry relevant message boards and sites like Report A Ripoff.

Why Do My Emails End Up in People’s Junk Mail?

Spam filters block emails for a lot of reasons. The result is, as you’ve found out, that many of your legitimate emails don’t get through but lots of spam still does. Here are three ways your email could be getting caught in spam filters.

1. Bad words, like here, now, etc.
Use to many of these and the spam filters block your email. Here’s a list of many words to avoid >>

One preventative measure to take is to check to see if any of the words in your email might trigger a spam filter and than edit accordingly, though it’s not clear that all spam filters will block your email if it uses an “offending word once or twice”.

2. Use of characters or unusual spellings that the spam filters think you could be using to avoid them. For example trying to slip sales by as ’s.ales’.

3. Your mail server. Unless you’re using a service that regularly makes sure they are on the white list of approved bulk email senders, you’re email can get blocked even though it’s legitimate. Here’s the link to the email broadcast service I use >>
