Hi Charlie,

Thanks for this checklist, it's really helpful.

In starting my own business, what's struck me is how important it is for me to be working on things I'm passionate about doing (your number 2).

What I've found (through my experience so far) is just how much time I'm having to spend on 'marketing' - as in building relationships with others, helping others to see my own strengths and what I can bring them (this is still very much a work in progress, of course :).

And in order to be able to do that - to be motivated to do that - I'd better be working on stuff I'm really passionate about. So I can keep going fast enough, keep on taking the actions I need to take. But also, so that enthusiasm will hopefully rub off on my customers and make my offerings more compelling.

That's my theory anyway, it'll be interesting to see how that pans out in practice.

As a business start-up I'm also always looking out for ways to keep my marketing costs down low. Money's tight, even without the threat of recession looming over my head. So I really agree with that point number 10 as well. Something I came across recently struck out at me. The question was posed: what could be better than low-cost or free marketing? The radical answer: getting paid! So I'm looking for ways to implement that idea in my business as I go forward. I'm trying to never run out of money again in my biz.

Hey, thanks again for your post. I'm going to bookmark and come back and explore more later - think I might pick up so more useful info here, and on your mailing list.

Keep up the great work.

All the best,
Deb

Oh, before I forget, if anyone wants to check out that radical new marketing idea, they can read a bit more here: http://tinyurl.com/24xqn8
It's well worth it, I reckon. Cheers, Deb

Thanks for this checklist, it’s really helpful.

In starting my own business, what’s struck me is how important it is for me to be working on things I’m passionate about doing (your number 2).

What I’ve found (through my experience so far) is just how much time I’m having to spend on ‘marketing’ – as in building relationships with others, helping others to see my own strengths and what I can bring them (this is still very much a work in progress, of course .

And in order to be able to do that – to be motivated to do that – I’d better be working on stuff I’m really passionate about. So I can keep going fast enough, keep on taking the actions I need to take. But also, so that enthusiasm will hopefully rub off on my customers and make my offerings more compelling.
