Networking: How To Turn 250 Contacts Into 31,250

By Jan Vermeiren   |   December 22, 2009

Do you remember the last time you were on a holiday and met another someone you knew? Ten to one you discovered you had a mutual contact and that one of you made the remark: “It is a small world, isn’t it?” This happens a lot on holidays. It even seems that this happens more abroad than in our daily lives. Is this a coincidence? Or is there more?

It is not that odd. We indeed live in a small world. Read More »

The Secret To Sales Success

By Jeffrey Mayer   |   December 20, 2009

Shirley told me she sometimes felt like a lioness hunting big game in Africa. When she needed business she went out and found it.

Then after she closed the sale and got that big commission check, she sat back and rested. Like the lioness who lays down after a successful hunt, rolls over on her back, and takes a long nap.

When the lioness is hungry she begins hunting for food again. And that’s what Shirley does. When she needs some business, she goes out and looks for it. Read More »

The other day I had a really nice email from a customer who wanted to thank me for the products they had bought.

As I started reading the email, I thought, “hey, that’s kind of nice” but then, when they ended their email with the words, “I just love your stuff!”, I thought, “Wow, that’s amazing!”

Follow Me Already!

By Rachel Minihan   |   December 16, 2009

I just hung up with a frustrated colleague.  I had invited her to follow one of my new Twitter accounts and she quickly called by phone (I know, I know – that’s sooo 2008!) to say, “I’ve been using Twitter for two months and I’m providing quality content.  I only have 24 followers.  You just opened that account and you already have that many.  How can I get more followers?!?!?”

Before we go any further, let me digress and mention that using Twitter is NOT all about how many followers you can collect.  It is about the relationships that you build.  Read More »

When Time Is Not On Your Side

By Michael Katz   |   December 16, 2009

Back when we were fresh out of college, my friend Tom told me his theory about picking up women: The better looking you are, the more time you have to make a good impression on a stranger.

If you’re average looking, Tom concluded, you have about two minutes. A little better than average, a little more time. A little worse than average, a little less time. In my case unfortunately, this worked out to negative time, which essentially meant that I had to make a good impression on a woman about 30 seconds before I arrived.

In any case, and while I’m not sure about the numerical accuracy of Tom’s conclusions, I do think that he had a valid point in general: First impressions matter, and the more intriguing something is at the beginning — for whatever reason — the more willing we are to give it a chance to prove itself. By Mike Benson   |   December 15, 2009

With unemployment at its highest levels in years as 2009 wraps up, many people are taking matters into their own hands. And many are finding success online.

The Web is a crucial place to do business, especially at this time of year. Anyone paying attention knows this, but you may not know the significance of the statistics. It’s too soon for 2009 numbers, but in 2008, Nielsen announced that the number of online shoppers had increased 40 percent in the last two years to 875 million people worldwide.

To turn more of those shoppers into loyal customers in the New Year, marketers and Web developers need an ambitious online plan. Read More »

Four Reasons Why People Buy

By Mike Jezek   |   December 15, 2009

Pain is the key to profits. It’s vital that you understand this when you’re creating sales letters, landing pages and ads. Many people create ads by tossing out a bunch of benefits and hoping something sticks. This is a big problem especially with beginning copywriters. In copywriting and sales, you’re taught to find the benefits and promote the benefits of your product or service that you’re selling.

However, you have to understand the right way to do this. Read More »
