No woman in the delivery room looked at her newborn child and said, \u201cWe\u2019ve got a <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-2154\" title=\"sales-champion\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marketingforsuccess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/sales-champion.jpg\" alt=\"sales-champion\" width=\"150\" height=\"99\" \/>Champion salesperson here!\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Everyone starts out with pretty much the same abilities. Where you go from there depends on <!--more-->a lot of factors. However, what you become in life boils down to the skills you master along the way.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketingforsuccess.com\/articles8z\/people.html\">Selling<\/a> has been called both an art and a science. The title doesn\u2019t really matter. What matters is that selling skills can be learned just like the skill of riding a bicycle. It just takes practice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Another aspect of this myth is that in order to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketingforsuccess.com\/articles17u\/next.html\">succeed in sales<\/a>, you must have \u2018the gift of gab.\u2019 While it\u2019s true that you must not be afraid to talk with people, it\u2019s even more important that you learn to listen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The human body is amazing. We have been given two eyes, two ears and one mouth. They should be used in that proportion. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketingforsuccess.com\/articles11w\/oncourse.html\">Learn to listen<\/a> and observe twice as much as you talk, and you will succeed in sales.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Introvert vs. Extrovert in Sales<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">It doesn\u2019t matter what your current disposition is. Both introverts and extroverts can do well in sales. The major difference between the two types of people is that extroverts tend to be <em>interest<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">ing<\/span><\/em> while introverts are more <em>interest<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">ed<\/span><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">There\u2019s a story told in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dalecarnegie.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dale Carnegie<\/a>\u2019s excellent book, <em>\u201cHow to Win Friends and Influence People,\u201d<\/em> about a man who was invited to a party where he only knew the hosts. During the evening, he mingled with many of the other guests. Afterward, many commented to the hosts on what a wonderful person this new guest was. When asked what they found so interesting about him, the guests realized they hadn\u2019t learned much about him at all. He had made them feel important by getting them to talk about themselves. He was interest<em>ed<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The interest<em>ing<\/em> person entertains. The interest<em>ed<\/em> person lets others do the talking. The lesson to learn from this is that you can benefit from a little of each disposition. In sales, you want what you say to have an impact and in some cases to achieving that impact requires a bit of entertaining.
