{"id":4537,"date":"2010-03-22T08:31:42","date_gmt":"2010-03-22T13:31:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/37d57f8fa2.nxcli.io\/blog\/?p=4537"},"modified":"2010-03-18T09:09:01","modified_gmt":"2010-03-18T14:09:01","slug":"stuck-in-a-rut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marketingforsuccess.com\/blog\/small-business-management\/innovation\/stuck-in-a-rut\/","title":{"rendered":"Stuck In a Rut?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Over a cup of tea in Dublin, our client, David confessed to us that he had run out of creative juice, was unable to come up with fresh, new ideas, and was feeling stuck in a rut.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Lacking the passion, energy and zest necessary to help him lead his team toward success, he was feeling zombie-like\u2026going through the motions day-to-day, showing up but not really being there, doing what he had to do but not doing it with joy and passion and getting by but not getting inspired. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s face it, when you are feeling like David, it\u2019s hard to be excited or look forward to anything.\u00a0 When we don\u2019t have much left in our creative tank eventually we will simply <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketingforsuccess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/innovation.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-4538\" title=\"innovation\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marketingforsuccess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/innovation.jpg\" alt=\"innovation\" width=\"150\" height=\"91\" \/><\/a>run out of gas.\u00a0 We imagine that you can relate to David and his feelings of being stuck.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">At some point in our lives most of us have felt overwhelmed, unmotivated and stuck. Of course, during those times, it\u2019s hard to feel creative, come up with new ideas, and meet the challenges of our work and lives with a feeling of possibility and passion.\u00a0 With the pace of change and the demands of our organizations in today\u2019s world, creativity isn\u2019t a luxury \u2013 it\u2019s a survival skill. So, in order to survive, then, we need to get unstuck and out of the rut.<\/p>\n<p>According to dictionary.com a rut is \u201ca settled or established habit or course of action, especially a boring one.\u201d\u00a0 As we know, habits can be hard to break.\u00a0 The trick is, of course, replacing the old, boring, rut-inducing habits with fresh, new, exciting habits that stick and give you energy.<\/p>\n<p>But exactly how, you might ask, do I do that?<\/p>\n<p>Well, simply put, you need to get stimulated! When we say getting stimulated, likely a lot of different ideas or images come to mind (some of you might even be blushing!). But what we mean is finding, nurturing and experiencing stimuli of all kinds as a part of your daily routine in order to keep things fresh and keep you engaged.\u00a0 This is the secret to getting unstuck.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">If we become aware of and conscious of how we seek and use stimulus, we will flourish and create new, exciting habits that become a part of who we are and how we see the world.\u00a0 Possibilities oriented\u2026Playful\u2026Imaginative\u2026Excited\u2026Alive\u2026 Now, who doesn\u2019t want all that?!<\/p>\n<p>Some helpful tips to get stimulated and out of a rut right now:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shake it Up<\/strong><br \/>\nRoutines and predictability make us feel safe.\u00a0 When we\u2019re in a rut, however, these safe routines keep us stuck.\u00a0 So, what is something you can do right now \u2013<br \/>\ndifferently \u2013 to change a routine?\u00a0 Might you drive to work a different way or pick up a magazine that normally you wouldn\u2019t read?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">How about packing up your laptop and heading to the local caf\u00e9 to catch the vibe there?
