Let&#8217;s look at why testing matters and what to test\u00a0and when.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why Testing Matters<br \/>\n<\/strong> A couple of weeks ago I headed out after work for a quick 20 mile\u00a0bike ride. Nice evening, not too much traffic &#8211; everything was\u00a0going great until my rear tire went flat.<\/p>\n<p>I thought, no problem, I&#8217;ve got spare tubes and a sleek,\u00a0lightweight carbon fiber pump I paid a premium for. Within seconds\u00a0I had the new tube in the tire. But when I went to inflate it, I\u00a0discovered, much to my chagrin, that my pump didn&#8217;t fit the tire\u00a0valve.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d never tested my pump. I didn&#8217;t know that I&#8217;d chosen a great\u00a0looking and expensive pump that only worked on one type of tire\u00a0valve. More importantly, it didn&#8217;t work on the valves I had with\u00a0me. Without testing, you won&#8217;t know what&#8217;s\u00a0working and what&#8217;s not. Each element of your web site needs to be\u00a0tested to see if it is actually doing the job you expect it to do.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the top 3 things to test.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Your Marketing Message<\/strong><br \/>\nTest the headline you put at the top of the page that tells people\u00a0why they should stay on your site. You can use Google Ads to run\u00a0split tests to two different pages and see which headline keeps\u00a0people on the page the longest or which prompts the most number of\u00a0people to contact you.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Your Free Offer<\/strong><br \/>\nOne of the fastest ways to generate leads with your site is to\u00a0offer something for free, but just adding a free offer subscribe\u00a0form on your page won&#8217;t get you the most leads. The key is to\u00a0provide your site visitors with a compelling reason to give you\u00a0their contact information.<\/p>\n<p>Test the offers you provide, even if it&#8217;s just for something you\u00a0are giving away, to see which offers generate the most leads and\u00a0sales. The wrong offer won&#8217;t generate leads. Find the right one,\u00a0and you can easily prompt dozens of people to contact you each day\u00a0and double or triple your profits.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Your Page Design<\/strong><br \/>\nThe size, color and placement of different elements on the page\u00a0determine how well your visitors understand what you want them to\u00a0do. Changing the size and color of your headline and subhead, for\u00a0example, can make all the difference in whether or not visitors\u00a0take the action you want them to take.<\/p>\n<p>For example, I recently did a test with the sign up form on my home\u00a0page. Instead of asking people to sign up for my free report in two\u00a0places at the top of the page, I designed a larger signup form and\u00a0asked them once.
