I Wrote 2 Posts and Didn’t Get Results, What’s…

I’m always amazed at how many smart people try a marketing strategy and then quit before they can reap the benefits. Imagine you’d make a commitment to get fit, lose a few extra pounds and build up your strength so you could run five miles a day.

If you tried it for two days and discovered that you hadn’t lost any weight and didn’t feel any fitter – would you quit?

Of course not. You’d stick with it for months if not years, using the same strategy, eat less, exercise a bit more each week, until you’d reached  your goals.

Article marketing and blog marketing are the same. To make them work you need to know how, and then stick with it for months. I’ve been using this marketing strategy for over ten years and it’s the article marketing strategyprimary reason my business is so successful. One simple marketing strategy, done right, over and over.

Want to make article or blog marketing work to grow your business? Use these four simple steps.

1.  What should you write about?

If you want people to read your expert posts, make them provocative, controversial and newsworthy. Use your subject to make your target market curious about how your post can help them.

As an expert, you know tons of information about your area of business that could help thousands thousands of people in your target market, but remember in order to educate them and impress them with your expertise you need to entertain them.

2. How can you tell if my posts are on target?

Check to see how many people retweet your posts. If only one or two people did so, then you need to make your posts more entertaining, more informative and more accessible by your readers.

3. You already submitted 2-3 posts and you’re not getting a flood of traffic, how long should you stick with it?

If you were growing a crop of corn, and you’d planted 2 seeds how long would you wait to harvest it? A couple of weeks or months?

Article or blog marketing is the same. You need to stick with the strategy to make it work.

If you’re new to article marketing, the idea is to build a loyal following of readers, people who because they’ve seen your posts regularly, week after week and month after month, think of you as the go-to-expert in your field. Then when they have a question or a need they seek you out, along with your products and or your services.

The more content you publish, the more readers will learn about you, and the more clients and customers you’ll have.

4. How do you get readers of your articles or posts to click through to your site?

Make sure to include links to your site, to your products and services in the resource box or bio page provided. Some blogs and article sites limit what you can include to a short resource box. Others allow you to include a full bio page. If you’re lucky enough to be allowed the later, go for it and include a full bio, mini- product sales blurbs, etc

Blog and article marketing is one of the lowest cost and most powerful ways to grow your business – but it only works for the people who stick with it – fine tune your strategy and do the weekly writing needed to build a loyal following.

How about you?

Can you make blog and article marketing work for you?

    Hey Charlie,

This was a great post! When I first got started blogging and didn’t see immediate results, I questioned the marketing strategy. But just like any other form of marketing you have to stick with it and be very consistent. If you don’t, then what’s the point? The people who do it on a regular basis and never quit will reap the rewards. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent points, Charlie. Article marketing is not a “get rich quick” strategy. It’s a process that works better the longer you do it.

That said, it’s important to monitor results because I’ve found that some article directories don’t work that well at all — at least compared with better quality sites.

For instance, since I track all sources of traffic using Google Analytics, I can tell you which sites send me the most traffic. Based on this, I know where I can get the most bang for my article marketing buck.

I can understand why people give up. It can be very disheartening to write blog posts and get little to no traffic in the early days. It does not help when people read about others making overnight riches just through blogging! In most, if not all cases, “overnight” means at least 2 years of persistent marketing and drip feeding content out.

I completely agree with you Charlie, in this age of immediate gratification, potentially successful small business owners are giving up far too soon. Many give up because they feel it is too hard to get their content posted in all the places they need to, to be noticed. I have solved that problem for my clients because I suffered from the same view in the early days.

I have posted the URL of this post into my social media accounts because I feel it is important for everyone to understand this and stick with it.
