3 Foolproof Tips For Achieving Sales Success

Author: Tom Hopkins   |   March 2nd, 2011

I get asked a lot of questions by my curious students: How can I make more sales? How can I close more sales? How can I find more clients?

But the one question in particular that seems to always seem to want to know is…how to develop and nurture their desire for success.

Usually, they’re asking because they’re facing a tough time and are questioning whether or not they have it in them to continue in sales.

Everyone knows sales is tough. It takes thick skin and it takes a lot of drive. It also requires a hunger for success.

Here are three simple methods of developing a burning desire to succeed. They will work — if you want them to.

1. The biggest obstacle to developing desire is the idea that we’ll never be able to fulfill it.

This fear of disappointment and failure stops a lot of people before they can even truly get started. Because of this, many people get discouraged and choose to avoid the frustration they may encounter once they set out to achieve something more in their lives.

Stop and think about where this fear came from.

Think of all the things you’ve achieved so far? Like learning t to walk, talk, run, read, do math, drive a car, etc. And fear certainly didn’t stop you then you then.

So, why are you letting it hold you back from living the life of your dreams now?

If you don’t develop a burning desire to better your life, you’re cheating yourself and your loved ones with phony excuses. You’re choosing a level of life that’s poor compared to what you could have with the extra exertion you’re capable of. It’s all on your shoulders and there’s no way you can shift a bit of the responsibility to anyone else.

2. Focus on specifics. Make arrangements with yourself. When I do this, I get that. Don’t try to make yourself work for nothing, but do hold yourself accountable.

3. Take small steps. If you’ve never made more than minimum wage, don’t aim for half a million dollars the first year. But you need to have faith in yourself.

In fact, I know former migrant farm workers who came out of the fields and made himself extremely wealthy. I also know people with incredible disabilities who have formed astounding careers helping others.

If your sunshine wants far outshine your cold morning desire, have a talk with yourself, then have a lot more talks. Convince yourself you can succeed and will succeed.
