The last two weeks have been a nightmare for my production team.
They’ve been working hard to get our new site ready for launch and slaving away managing the compression of some largish videos and loading them on to the site.
And while I appreciate all the hard work…
my designer, my videographer and my webmaster put into it they all made the same mistake – which I’ll take the blame for.
I’ve worked hard to train my staff a very important success tip – always have a can do attitude. If they’ve got a problem, I don’t want them relying on me to solve it, or for it to go unsolved. I want them to try and figure it out themselves – which is fundamentally a good idea but it’s got limitations if you take it too far.
For example, these past two weeks, my team, has been struggling to deal with a video problem, that it turns out is very complicated, and actually requires both an expert and some software only a few video specialists have.
Which is why the smartest question asked in the past two weeks came from my graphic designer, this past Friday, when she asked my webmaster, if she actually knew how to solve the video problem or needed help. To which my webmaster indicated she was stuck. She’d just been trying everything she could think of but it wasn’t working.
Within an hour my graphic designer had gone back to our videographer and found the online service he recommended and had a solution in the works. This after two weeks of struggling and wasted time.
In case you’re interested the video hosting business we signed up for is www.iplayerhd.com and the super helpful guy to talk to is Wes.
Whether or not you use video on your site, or you need a video hosting service, the point I’m making is…
There is no shame in asking for help.
In fact, if you’re stuck, before you waste too much time trying to figure it out yourself or reinvent the wheel – it’s the smart business decision to make.
Which is why my partner and I created Clients Delivered in the first place, to help local business owners who want to avoiding getting stuck. We’re already helping over 50 businesses with this all in one done for you marketing and sales support service, so getting our own site up is taking a little longer than we’d like.
If you want a sneak peak at the beta site you can find it at www.ClientsDelivered.com and share your comments.
And check back later this week, to see all 6-7 videos we’re loading.
To your success,
Charlie Cook
