What’s More Important In Your Marketing Strategy?

Author: Charlie Cook   |   March 10th, 2011

“I am in the e-commerce industry and I’m wondering: What’s more important? A killer website with awesome pictures? Or a decent website with decent pictures, and killer blog and social media content to drive people to your OKAY website?” Daniel, Peak Coffee & Tea

So which is it, which is the most important to the success of your ecommerce business? Whether you market online or off the key to increasing sales isn’t any one element of your marketing. You’re creating a marketing funnel, not a single destination with your website (or if you market offline, with your mailings).

The first task is to map out your marketing funnel. Map out how you are going to get your prospects:

1. To pay attention – so they visit your web site or call you
2. Into your marketing funnel, e.g onto your list or viewing your information
3. To know you, like you, trust you
4. To sell themselves on the value of what you provide
5. To motivate them to buy from you
6. To spend more with you so they get everything they want
7. To buy again
8. To refer their friends and do your marketing for you

Think of it as building a set of stairs.

Could you take out the first couple of steps or could you have the first few steps be solid and the final step missing?

The most important part of building a set of stairs, whether they’re plywood, polished marble or plain oak, is that they’re all there. The same is true of the steps in your marketing strategy.

While it would be great to have every element, or every step in your marketing funnel be perfect, it’s more important that it be complete.

So what’s the status of your marketing funnel?

Do you have one?

Do you know what the key steps in it should be?

Is it complete?

FYI, I’ve got one spot left in my coaching program for a successful business owner.
