How to Increase Your Profits In ANY Economy

—–
“Over the last 12 months, every time we take out an ad, send out a mailing we seem to get a lower and lower response rate. The same is true with our website, it just doesn’t seem to be pulling in new clients.

I know the economy stinks, but that’s not my style to try and look for something or someone to blame. What can I do to get more sales this year?
– Arthur Petersen, KY
—–

Over the years you’ve worked hard to build your small business.  What can you do now to make sure the current downturn doesn’t steal your profits and that instead you keep new sales coming in and keep growing?

Nine years ago, I wrote my first sales page which I posted on my website. I looked around at the type of sales pages my competitors were using and tried to use the same approach.

The result? Even weeks later sales were barely trickling in.

I knew it wasn’t my product and I was getting plenty of traffic to the page – so what was it I was doing wrong?

I made the same mistake that most small business owners make. Even though I’d put words on the page, they didn’t grab my prospects’ attention, they didn’t work to get them reading and they didn’t work to generate a flood of sales.

Ever take out an ad, send out a mailing put up a web sales page and find yourself in the same situation?  Even with plenty of exposure you get hardly any sales?

What’s the solution? Can you generate 5-10 times as much interest and sales? Can you make your marketing strategies work to get people to contact you and buy from you? And most importantly, can you light a fire under them so your prospects are motivated to make a purchase TODAY?

The answer is YES!

Find out the simple steps to take to get all the prospects and sales you can handle >>

After failing so miserably at writing copy that sells when I first started out, I did a lot of research and I sought out the best advice I could find. Eventually I hired one of the top copywriters on the planet as my mentor.

Thanks to consistent application of a few simple marketing strategies, I now enjoy some of the highest conversion rates in the industry. Translated into English that means, the ads, the sales pages and the direct mail pieces I write translate directly into a huge number of sales and amazing profits.

In business one of the keys to success is generating at least 10 to 20 dollars for each dollar you spend on marketing. When you do, when you spend a dollar on an ad and it brings in 20 or more it’s easy to be profitable.

How can you do this? How can you get your ads, mailings, websites ezines, etc. working so they bring in a flood of sales even in this economy?

Find the answer in this FREE Copywriting TeleSeminar >>

Stop thinking about what you’re to sell and start thinking about what your prospects are buying!

This is the number one mistake every small business owner makes. Your messages need to focus on what your prospects are looking for, not what you’re selling…

Prospects want to know ‘What’s in it for ME?’

Answer that question by talking about the BENEFITS of your product or service, not the FEATURES.

Volvo commercials don’t advertise that the car frame is made of high-quality metal, or its design was years in the making.  They say that your family will be safe in their car.

A print ad for Viagra doesn’t show the chemical compound of the little blue pill.  It shows a man and a woman holding hands on their way to an intimate moment.

Benefits, not features are what matter. Or more precisely: the benefits of the features.

Is your copy filled with the words ‘I’ and ‘my’?  Does it have phrases like:  ‘I can get you a better mortgage rate’ or ‘My system took me a long time to develop.’

That’s all about YOU.  To sell more you need to make it all about your prospect. It’s a lot more powerful to say ‘You can lower your mortgage rate and save money with my help’ and ‘You can save time and enjoy success sooner using the system I spent years to develop.’

Any time you’re communicating with prospects…in sales letters, print ads, web site copy, or even your on-hold message, focus on the three things that tell them ‘This is all about You’. Focus on:

1. The NEEDS They Have – ‘Do You Want Your Lawn to Be Lush and Green?’ or ‘Your back pain doesn’t have to hold you back’ or ‘You’ve come to the right place to get out of debt.

2. The BENEFITS You Provide – ‘You Won’t Have to Break Your Back Feeding and Seeding’ or ‘Your flexibility and comfort will improve instantly’ or ‘You can pay off all your bills in 60 days or less.

3. The FEATURES That Allow You to Provide the Benefits – ‘Our lawn product uses a ‘secret’ seed that gives you months of care-free enjoyment’ or ‘I am a licensed chiropractor, so you’re in good hands’ or ‘The creators of our system all come from the credit card industry so they know exactly what you need to do”

Notice that all the features still talk about ‘you.’

– Charlie

P.S. When your marketing copy is working it’s like you’ve switched the traffic light from red to green. Sales come pouring in. To get you started, I’m giving away a 50 page FREE ebook that includes, “The 22 Hot Buttons That Get People To Buy.”

What’s The Difference In Email – Copywriters?

By Charlie Cook   |   February 21, 2008

“I have been reading your newsletter and very impressed with the knowledge you have about marketing. Your letters grab attention as well as provide substance.

My question is about email sales letter. How important is the writing of that sales letter? I’m surprised to see the big price range for copywriters. Is it true that one writer can have 50 percent more value over others, when they basically talk about the same thing? If there is indeed that much of difference, how would one tell, the good from the bad, the super good from the ordinary ones?” – Felicia

What’s the difference between good marketing copy and copy that kills sales?

Want to know which words sell? Use this link >>

A good copywriter can use the right words to grab your prospects’ attention and give them enough substance to keep them reading. Whether it’s your web page, a sales brochure or your email, you want the marketing copy to work to capture your prospects’ interest, engage their imaginations and get them thinking about how much better off they’d be with the solution you offer.

Most marketing copy is so boring prospects won’t read it and you don’t keep their attention and you lose the sale. Good copywriters can charge more, a lot more because their copy can generate 2 to 10 as many sales.

How should you pick a marketing copywriter to help you grow your business?

Find one who can give you proof! Any good copywriter should have examples of sales letters or emails he or she has written and testimonials from clients who can back up his or her claims.

If it’s results you want, don’t hire anyone who can’t demonstrate that they can help you get the business results you’re after.

Poor copy will not only not get any results but will turn off your prospects and can kill potential future sales.

Which words sell? Use this link >>

Good copy can send your sales through the roof. I have one client who happily pays her copywriter $500 to write their weekly email because the cost is a pittance relative to all the sales it generates.

Should You Use a Long Or Short Sales Letter?

By Charlie Cook   |   March 6, 2006

“I hate long sales letters. Why don’t you just tell me the price so I can decide whether I can afford it.”
– Sheryl, Long Beach CA

How do you know which to use, a short succinct sales letter or a long one? The answer is without testing you don’t. The only way to really know which type of sales letter works best is to test multiple versions. But keep in mind the following…

Price by itself can be a scary thing. $100 may sound like a lot to your prospect when they don’t know what they are going to get for their money. On the other hand if they fully understand the value of your product or service and all the extras you provide at no cost, $100 may be an incredible bargain.

Present price without the context of value and it will be deterrent. Present it in the context of the value provided and it can be a compelling reason to buy.

Your sales letter needs to:
– Help your prospects understand how your product or service will help them,
– Why they should trust you,
– What the value of your offer is in terms they understand,
and
– Why they need to act now.

It needs to convince them they can’t live without your product or service.

If you can do all of the above in a few words, great. Generally you’ll need 4-10 pages which is why on average long sales letters work better than short.

It’s Easy to Steal On The Web But It’s Just As Easy To Get Caught…

By Charlie Cook   |   December 6, 2005

The web makes it easy for unscrupulous people to steal your content on the web its true but this same easy of access makes it easy to find people who do this. Take what happened today.

This morning I got a call from someone I’d never heard of. It turns out they had paid someone to write some marketing copy for them. When it was delivered they liked it so much they took notice. They noticed it was written in a different style and became curious. They’re curiosity inspired them to “Google” some of the copy.

What did they find? They found that the copy that they had just paid someone else to write had been stolen verbatim from this site and their copywriter and substituted her name. Being honest clients, they called me to let me know this “marketing communications” firm not only was selling my copy as their own, they were using it as their own on their web site.

A couple of emails and a phone call later and the president of the guilty firm, apologized, removed the stolen copy and promised to cease and desist from using my work illegally.

It’s true it may be easy to steal marketing copy on the web, but it’s just as easy to find the thieves. Of course its simpler to just ask for permission, provide attribution or hire a good copywriter to start with.

What’s Involved In Increasing Web Sales?

By Charlie Cook   |   September 27, 2005

“I want to get more traffic to my web site, generate more leads and increase sales. If I sign up with you can you do it?” – J. Bollard

Creating a web site that sells is like building a spec house. You need an architect to create the plan, a contractor to build it and a realtor to market it.

In the case of your web site, I can work with you to develop the plan and the marketing copy for the site. Next you’ll need your web site designer to follow the plan and put the plan and copy in place. If you don’t have a web designer, I can recommend a few I’ve worked with.

Once your site is built to spec, you’ll need to market it to the search engines, sign up for pay-per-click advertising and use your articles to pull in traffic. I don’t do these tasks for any site except my own, but can refer you to a reputable firm.

In summary the three steps to creating a web site that sells are:
1. Plan & Write
2. Build
3. Attract Traffic
